Locum Tenens Physician – Anesthesiology
Location: UCSF Campus Anesthesia Float Pool – San Francisco, CA
Start Date: September 22, 2025 - March 21, 2026
Duration: 26 Weeks (Contract Length: 26+ weeks preferred)

Compensation:

$222.73/hour (All-Inclusive)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM
No Call Required
Float Between UCSF Sister Sites (High-acuity inpatient & ambulatory surgery centers)

Position Summary:

Join UCSF’s Anesthesia Float Pool as a locum anesthesiologist providing coverage across UCSF’s network of inpatient hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers. This position focuses on general and regional cases only — no cardiac, liver, or neuro cases. Providers must be comfortable working solo and covering both inpatient and outpatient procedures.

Case Types:

• General anesthesia (majority of cases)

• Some regional anesthesia (preferred but not required)

• No cardiac, liver transplant, or neuro cases

Practice Details:

• Shift: 5x8s (Day shift: 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM)

• Support Staff: CRNAs (occasional supervision)

• Patient Population: Adolescents (13+) and Adults

• EMR: EPIC

• Setting: Hospital Operating Room

Requirements:

• Board Certification: Required (Will consider truly board eligible candidates if fellowship trained)

• California Medical License: Required

• DEA with Schedule 2/2N authority in CA: Required

• Certifications: AHA BLS & ACLS – Required

• Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years in anesthesiology

  • Recent experience in tertiary care centers

  • Must be comfortable working independently

Credentialing & Interview:

• Credentialing Timeframe: 60–90 days

• Interviews: 1–2 video/phone interviews expected

• References: Please submit 2 professional references (the facility may contact them before offering)

Additional Info:

• Block Scheduling: Not available

• Minimum Coverage Requirement: 2 weeks/month

• Full-time coverage preferred

2. California Medical License

   • Active and unrestricted

3. DEA License

   • Must include Schedule II/2N authority in California

4. Board Certification or Proof of Eligibility

   • American Board of Anesthesiology

   • Include fellowship documentation if board eligible

5. Certifications (AHA Only):

   • BLS – Basic Life Support

   • ACLS – Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support

6. Professional References (2 required)

   • From Supervisors/Medical Directors only (no peers)

   • Must include contact information (phone & email)

   • UCSF may contact references prior to offering

7. List of Recent Case Types

   • Include information on general and regional experience

   • Note no cardiac, neuro, or liver transplant cases required

8. Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination

   • Must be COVID 19 Vaccinated with Booster
