Job Description

Duties include (but are not limited to):

1. Routine Maintenance & Repairs

Assist in the inspection, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, including:

Lighting systems (public areas, cabins, machinery spaces)

Power distribution panels and switchboards

Motors, pumps, and control circuits

Galley and laundry equipment

Elevators, escalators, and moving walkways

Perform basic wiring, rewiring, and component replacements (sockets, switches, lights, etc.)

2. Support for Electrical Projects

Help senior electricians in installing new equipment or upgrading systems.

Assist in running cable trays, terminating wires, and setting up temporary power systems for maintenance or refits.

3. Monitoring Systems

Check and report on:

Circuit breaker panels

Emergency lighting systems

UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) systems

Galley safety interlocks and alarms

Report faults and irregularities to the Electrician or Electrical Engineer.

4. Safety and Emergency Duties

Ensure that all work follows safety protocols (Lockout/Tagout procedures, PPE, etc.)

Assist in emergency power system checks, including:

Emergency generator

Battery backup systems

Participate in safety drills (fire, blackout, man overboard, abandon ship).

Maintain and check emergency lighting and exit signs.

5. Documentation and Reporting

Maintain proper logs for:

Equipment maintenance and repair

Spares and materials used

Assist in preparing fault reports and work completion forms.

6. Support for Passenger & Hotel Services

Respond to cabin maintenance requests for electrical issues (lights not working, power outlets, etc.).

Assist with the maintenance of:

AV (audio/visual) systems in lounges and theaters

Lighting control systems in guest areas

Pool equipment and water heating systems

Qualifications & Skills Required

Basic diploma or trade certification III/7 in electrical engineering or electrical maintenance

STCW Basic Safety Training (PST, PSSR, FPFF, EFA)

Knowledge of marine electrical systems is preferred

Experience in industrial or shipboard electrical work is an advantage

Ability to work safely, follow instructions, and assist senior technicians

Place of work: onboard a cruise ship.
